“McCaffrey 2011”, was the title for this exhibition at The York Mill Gallery running October 1st –30th. It featured a collection of recent works in a variety of disciplines, including his familiar assemble of pieces of 2D and 3D form. The York Mill Gallery showcased Robert’s development of new concepts in symbolic imagery in coloured monoprints on paper and on canvas, as well as the innovative techniques in creating illumintated canvases.
“McCaffrey 2011” delivered an overload of imagery, from the works created as “artist in residence”, Cataract Gorge in Tasmania to the works he has been developing these past 2 years – lush and rich in texture. Tactile pieces that invite touch – glossed surfaces that resemble glass, glazed canvases, plush textiles and embellished fibre work.
The overriding theme within most of the work is “organic”, in nature and sentiment. The attention to detail in the coloured monoprints reveals a designer’s quest for intricacy and harmony. The expressive nature in the illumintated canvases alludes to the art movements/periods of thelate 19thand early 20th Century.
We were delighted to have Robert’s works at The York Mill Gallery form the opening to a season of exhibitions to be announced. We apprecicate Roberts involvement and contributions in the redevelopment of The York Mill Gallery
